Project Information

Between 2022 and 2024, Zahedi worked with Hospital Rooms, the UK-based arts charity dedicated to ‘working towards a mental healthcare system where every single service user feels safe and secure in both their physical and mental environments’. During this long-term collaboration, Zahedi undertook specific projects within hospitals and healthcare settings, such as Springfield Hospital (South West London) as well as Goodmayes Hospital (East London). Further, actively seeking to create systemic change and to support people with poor mental health outside community settings, children and young people specifically, Zahedi worked with the Hospital Rooms to develop an online resource as part of their ‘Digital Art School’. Aspects from these projects were subsequently shown in two separate exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth London (Holding Space, 2023; Digital Art School, 2024).

Springfield: A Hospital Rooms Publication

This publication is a testament to the impact of art in mental health care, documenting the project at Springfield University Hospital and celebrating the internationally acclaimed and diverse artists who have been involved. Each artist has a unique perspective, with many specialising in participatory practices that place vulnerable individuals at the heart of their work. Each of the 20 artists involved challenges conventions and provokes a spirit of creative exploration within the hospital walls.
